LONG MOMENTS IN ETERNITY - BARBARA BERKOWITZ

31st May - 30th June 2005

Barbara Berkowitz is an artist working in new areas. She produces innovative artwork that is highly adaptable to adorn elegant interiors in a new and exciting way. Her exhibtion displays a range of her printing applications and concepts along with pieces of her art. Barbara is a photographic artist, producing semi-abstract pictures from beautiful, transient subjects, dancers, flowers, nature. These ethereal pictures are beautiful in their own right but Barbara enhances them further by printing onto a range of surfaces – billowing voiles, floor coverings glass, canvas, metal, outdoor mesh, etc. She works closely with technicians of the highest calibre to produce unique works of art on a large or small scale: printing in one piece can be up to 6 meters by 90 meters.

IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE BEAUTIFUL TO BE EXCITING
JACQUELINE MOON
4th - 29th July 2005

Spanish Concrete and Dovetail are two intensely worked and finely hand crafted Artist’s Books. They are based on both architectural paintings and drawings completed on an Artist’s Residency in Barcelona as well as an ongoing study of Glasgow. Jacqueline received an award towards the cost of making the books from the David Cantor Memorial Fund and the Glasgow Visual Artist Grants Fund. The images have been created using hard and soft ground, aquatint, crayon, photo- etching, burnishing, sanding and collograph to re- interpret the different surfaces and materials of the city. Spanish Concrete is an intensive mark making study, a personal but continuously assessed representation of my environment through drawing.

Dovetail explores the properties of colour. "I wanted to make a visually exciting book using harmonious, hot and cold colour and to gain a greater understanding of my subject matter. It uses my fascination with old and new buildings and those in states of construction to make a world that if you were to enter it could be quite surreal."

Jacqueline graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1998 with the Landscape Drawing Prize and the Glasgow Print Studio Prize. She has subsequently won a Purchase Prize and a Drawing Prize at the National Print Exhibition. Her work is held in collections in Museu D’Art D’Sabadell Barcelona, Paintings in Hospitals Scotland, New Hall Cambridge and Joan Hughson Gallery Glasgow.
